Christ Visits The Temple
When Jesus saw the temple, high,
The white robed priests, with subtle frown
And Christ beheld that victim die-
The Lord, our Lord to us come down.

How silently he saw the scene,
And bowed with others there to pray,
The mighty God in lowly mien
Oh, solemn were his thoughts, that day.

No foolish jesting here we see
For by our sins the Lord was sad.
He saw and faced Gethsemane,
Oh, make me careful like that lad.

Yea silent and so rapt in thought
He saw the awful price of sin,
He saw the lamb in silence brought
For Jesus bravely took it in.

In love for us he went ahead,
He saw the sinner there to kill,
He saw the timid lamb that bled
His masters duty to fulfill.

He saw it and he set his jaws
For in this task he saw his work
And David like he sought the cause
And bravely hunted for the clerk.

In majestic grandeur there he stood,
Sought admittance; The Lord of light.
He went to school but for our good
He would like David up and fight.

Oh, learned doctor watch they word
The Lord on high is in thy class.
Treasure each curtsy and what’s heard
No heeding man could let it pass.

Why does the Master need such tact?
Why does he need to choose his word
When he of wisdom nothing lacked
And Angels gladly would have heard?

Yes question doctors, let him say,
The sum in wisdom grace they hall.
Yes, every question, rightly weigh,
And aye, instructor at him fall.

Yea from they pupil seek to learn
For scientists here is your chance.
And botanists come take your turn
Astronomers can now advance.

And tact, let every teacher learn
What luck and fortune you possess.
Unknown quantities now you spurn
Professors now you may profess.

Bow down they sky, thy master see,
A humble child on learners bench.
Oh, lap they shore thou mighty sea
And thy creators world now drench.

And may yon star behold the scene
Let all creation draw up nigh,
And see their Lord in class routine
A pupil and his maker vie.

Cast forth they beam oh, mighty sun
And melt these hearts of hardened steel
For Christ the Fathers only son
Now as a learner comes to kneel.
